Many of the people here in the office at Swift have close family and relatives who are currently serving in the armed forces or are veterans; so the decision to sign up to the armed forces covenant was an easy one to make for us. We see this as a trust-based promise between us and the armed forces community. This covenant is the building of a relationship based on keeping our pledges through discipline and integrity.
The freedoms that we all enjoy every day in the UK are in large part because of the sacrifices that our brave men and women in the armed forces have made for us over the years; it’s up to society to try and repay that debt in any way it can. We are going to do our part to make sure that nobody who has served faithfully to protect our nation will be disadvantaged when they rejoin us civvys in the workplace.
When the opportunity arises, we will employ and encourage our partners in business to employ veterans.
What does this armed force covenant mean practically for us?
We will seek to uphold the principles of the covenant by doing the following 5 actions where possible.
- Promote the fact that we are an armed forces-friendly organisation and that we are here to help armed forces personnel receive the tax refunds they are entitled to.
- Strive to support the employment of service spouses and partners.
- Offer support to local cadet units, either in our local community or in local schools where possible; we will provide free tax information to help.
- We aim to actively participate in Armed Forces Day which we will actively promote on our website and social media platforms.
- We will offer a discount to members of the Armed Forces community in the form of half-price tax refunds compared to our rivals.
